New to the world of blogging!!
March 7th, 2007Wednesday March 7th. 2007.
Hallo everyone! This is my first attempt so bear with me! As a neophyte to the world of computers and cyberspace in general, I’m planning to record here my fumbling efforts to learn all sorts of interesting and exciting new challenges!
For example, I can’t wait to try out my new scanner, bought for the express purpose of scanning all the hundreds of slides that I have taken over many years before colour negatives were developed! (I’m dating myself, I know, but it will soon become apparent that I’m enjoying my ‘golden years’ so I might as well admit it right now!) My family tell me it will be so simple to convert my photos to digital format, and store them on DVD’S, and they will take up a lot less room! This is a major consideration, as I will soon be moving into a one-bedroom apartment!
Another world I hope to flounder my way into soon is that of photo editing. (Is that the right word? See, I’m not even up in the language yet!) Anyway, let me explain. My scanner came with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 incorporated in the package. So somehow I hope to learn how to remove unwanted objects in photos - like that garbage can in the wrong place, or those annoying telephone wires, and so on.
I’m sure this is quite tricky to learn, but hey! I’ve got all the time in the world!! And I have some wonderful friends who have promised to help me! When I move I will be all alone, with lots of time on my hands, so I will need lots of projects to keep me busy!
I have always felt that the world is so full of fascinating things to do, and places to see, that I just can’t imagine how anyone could ever be bored. I just can’t wait to get started!
At the moment I’m using the Picasa program to edit my recent photos, taken on a digital camera of course! (See, I’m quite up-to-date in some areas! ) This is so much fun, and the results are so satisfying, I could work at it all day! To heck with the housework!! And I’ve created a Web Album of 100 of my favourite pictures from last year, with captions too! Here are a couple of the special ones.

Another friend has shown me how it’s possible to edit one’s videos on the computer! He uses the program called Pinnacle and gave me a blow-by-blow demonstration of how it works. Several years ago I took a course in Editing Movies, but in those days you needed 5 or 6 separate pieces of equipment, all hooked together by cables snaking across the room! It was a shambles, but it worked! So now when I saw the same process all being done on the computer it just about blew me away!! And it has all the refined features like wipes, and titling, etc. I’m so excited I can’t wait to start!!
So as you see, there are lots of learning challenges that I’m facing in this wild, wacky world of photography combined with computer technology. I’ve always been a keen photographer ever since childhood, and have won a few prizes for my work over the years. So this will add a whole new dimension to a fascinating subject.
This whole programme sounds rather indigestible I know, and people will say I’ve bitten off more than I can chew! But this is my plan encompassing the next several years - it’s not all going to happen right away. But I thought it would be good to outline my Mission Statement and Goals, so as to keep me on track. Then I can revue it from time to time, and see what progress I have made.
That’s all for now. Signing off, Lola.
